Hand-in-Hand Ministries of Connecticut
The beauty, the majesty, the awesome power of the storm -- I am sitting on my front porch in the Borough of Naugatuck drinking it in. The storm was kind enough to wait until I got home and got settled into my chair before arriving. The drumbeat of the rain keeps changing tempo as the storm moves along its appointed journey. The tires of the cars passing by make a special sound as they plow through water falling in the street. The wet dirt -- the humus -- has a rich and fertile smell -- something basic -- the very thing from which I am fearfully and wonderfully made. But it is in the lightning that has me transfixed, because for me it is the power of my Higher Power displayed before my eyes. It is the precious gift with which my Higher Power assures me that He is the Highest Power. He is El Shaddai, the almighty God, before whom there is no other. Though the waves of the ocean may roar and foam and the mountains fall into the midst of the sea, the God of Jacob is my refuge.
The storm has passed, but in the stillness of the air and the peace within my spirit,
I know that God is God.
I have experienced Him again tonight.
